Chester man charged in first homicide of the year
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan and Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail announced today the arrest of Jamir Deshawn Edmonds (DOB: 1/23/1993) for the murder of Edward Taylor, Jr. at 8th and Lincoln Streets in Chester on January 14, 2013. Edmonds is charged with first degree murder, third degree murder and related charges.
On Monday, January 14, 2013, at 2:29 pm, the Chester Police Department responded to the 800 block of Lincoln Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found several males around the body of Edward Taylor, Jr. (DOB: 12/09/85) who had been shot numerous times. Taylor was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Delaware County Police Radio (DELCOM) was receiving calls regarding the shooting and information. DELCOM broadcasted flash information stating that the shooter was wearing a black vest over a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and that he fled the scene south on Lincoln Street, towards 6th Street. While officers were still checking the area for the shooter, along with Chester Police Detective James Nolan, responded to the scene to speak with any potential witnesses.
Following the shooting, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Chester Police Department commenced a joint investigation into the death of Taylor. CID Detective David Tyler and Chester Police Detective Patrick Mullen interviewed several witnessed who assisted with the investigation and confirmed the identity of Edmonds. On the night of the fatal shooting, one witness observed a man who fit the description of Edmonds shoot into a vehicle and walk away from the scene on the 800 Block of Lincoln Street.
On January 16, 2013, Delaware County Medical Examiner Dr. Frederic Hellman performed a post mortem examination of Taylor and determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. Jamir Deshawn Edmonds was arrested on Friday, February 1, 2013 and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Dawn Vann. The U.S. Marshals Service assisted police with the arrest. The defendant was remanded to Delaware County Prison without bail.
