Suspect In Last Sunday’s Fatal Shooting In Chester In Custody
Media, PA- Delco DA Jack Stollsteimer announced today that the suspect wanted for last Sunday’s murder in Chester turned himself in on charges of homicide and weapons offenses. "I am thankful to announce that defendant Matthew Hightower surrendered peacefully this afternoon to County Detectives. The charges brought against him today begin the process of our seeking justice for the victim of this completely senseless crime. My thanks to the Chester Police Department and our office's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for working collaboratively to protect the community."
Hightower, 36, of Chester, PA, was arraigned before District Judge Wilden Horace Davis, and remanded to George W. Hill Correctional Facility. He is charged with:
18 Pa.S.C. Section 2501(a) Criminal Homicide
18 Pa.S.C. Section 2502(a) Murder of the First Degree
18 Pa.S.C. Section 2502(c) Murder of the Third Degree
18 Pa.S.C. Section 6105(a) Person Not to Possess, Use, ect. Firearms
18 Pa.S.C. Section 6106(a)(1) Firearms Not to Be Carried Without a License
18 Pa.S.C. Section 907(b) Possession of a Weapon
Hightower, previously convicted of a crime in 2010, is prohibited from possessing a firearm, which was the type of weapon alleged to have been used in the killing on Sunday.
