Byron Sean Bryant

MEDIA, Pa -- Today Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland announced the arrest of Byron Sean Bryant, 30, who is charged with first-degree murder in a fatal shooting that occurred on January 23, 2018, in the area of the 500 block of Mosley Court in Chester which resulted in the death of a male victim inside of his car while two children were in the backseat.

Byron Sean Bryant, 30, of the 2000 block of Upland Avenue in Chester, is charged with criminal homicide, first, second and third-degree murder, criminal conspiracy, and robbery, all felonies of the first degree, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a felony of the second degree, firearms not to be carried without a license, a felony of the third degree, and possession of an instrument of crime, a misdemeanor of the first degree. The investigation was conducted by Detective David DeFrank of the Chester City Police Department and Detective Timothy Deery of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Homicide Unit.

On January 23, 2018 at 8:31 p.m., Chester City Police Officers responded to a radio call for the report of a shooting victim in the area of 500 Mosley Court. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the front seat of a vehicle along with two small children in the backseat. The victim, later identified as Chadease “Chad” Coleman, succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was immediately launched by Chester City Police Detective David DeFrank and CID Detective Timothy Deery. CID Crime Scene Detectives processed the crime scene and recovered eight spent 40 caliber fired cartridge casings and three spent 9-millimeter shell casings surrounding the front driver’s side of the vehicle. With assistance from CID Criminal Intelligence Analyst Kelsey Coppola, video surveillance from the surrounding area was retrieved and analyzed. As the result of this video surveillance along with police investigation, detectives determined that Bryon Bryant and others robbed the victim, thereafter shooting and killing him. Byron Bryant was arraigned on April 12, 2019 by Magisterial District Judge Spencer B. Seaton, and the preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 8, 2019.

“As a result of surveillance video and excellent police-work, we were able to apprehend Byron Bryant, who will now face the consequences of his actions for viciously gunning down the victim, while children were in the backseat of the car, in this senseless act of violence. I would like to commend the exceptional investigative work of Chester Police Detective DeFrank and CID Detective Deery, along with the hard work of all the law enforcement personnel who worked countless hours to achieve justice for the victim and his family,” said District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland.
